Sunset Sabi

The name: Sunset Sabi is an adaptation of Wabi-sabi; a difficult concept to define. In Western culture it may be synonymous with finding 'beauty in imperfection', evoking aesthetic emotion, easily felt, but hard to define.

The design: With an envisioned balance between Western and Japanese culture, I was lead to the art of Shibori. Shibori derives from the Japanese word 'shiboru', meaning 'to wring, squeeze or press', which references several ways of embellishing textiles through resist dyeing. The meaning of Wabi-sabi and the art of Shibori inspired much of the restaurant design, styling and branding.
